Hvar s a dense hub of Venetian architecture, historic maritime structures, and the largest public square in Dalmatia. Its history is defined by its strategic role as a major Venetian naval port from the 13th to 18th centuries.
Begin your tour by visiting the Hvar Arsenal, originally a shipyard and later transformed into the first municipal theater in Europe in 1612. Then, stand on the eastern side of the city square, at the far end of the Pjaca, where two parts of the city meet, and see the breathtaking Cathedral of Saint Stephen.
Next, proceed to the Franciscan Monastery, known for its magnificent painting of the Last Supper. Continue to the Benedictine Monastery with its collection of church reliquaries and ecclesiastical fixtures.
